A Jazzy Speakeasy on the F Line, presented by Mystic Midway

For three unforgettable hours on a Thursday, Mystic Midway transformed a Muni streetcar into San Francisco's tiniest jazz club. As the antique F Line car rolled between Van Ness and Embarcadero, commuters were swept into an impromptu 1920s-style jazz performance, complete with a brass band, singer, and costumed performers.

Part of Market Street Arts’ Unstaged initiative, and in collaboration with Building 180, the Hotsy Totsy Club brought a touch of Prohibition-era magic to Market Street. From 4 to 7 p.m., passengers found themselves caught in a spontaneous jazz-infused celebration—unexpected solos, playful emcee banter, and a lively atmosphere that felt like a mobile speakeasy on rails.

Performers like J.A. Valentine, dressed in full ‘20s attire, moved through the aisles, creating a lively, interactive experience that turned ordinary Muni riders into delighted participants. As the car’s brass section filled the air with swinging tunes, tourists, commuters, and even surprised passersby couldn’t help but tap their feet, laugh, and capture the moment on their phones.

Thanks to Mystic Midway’s creative vision, the Hotsy Totsy Club turned an everyday streetcar ride into a joyful journey through time—proof that in San Francisco, magic can be found on the rails.

A Whirlwind of Whimsy, Stories, Dancing and Magic!

On September 5th, October 3rd, and November 5th, Mystic Midway's FRISCO STORY TIME MACHINE brought immersive, interactive theater to Mid Market’s inaugural First Thursday series: UNSTAGED: LIVE ON MARKET STREET and onboard the HOTSY TOTSY F Line streetcar.

A joyful celebration of community and spontaneity, FRISCO STORY TIME MACHINE invited guests to share love letters and meaningful moments on mic, creating a vibrant tapestry of San Francisco’s heart and soul. The day was alive with spontaneous conga lines and playful chaos, all set in motion by the WHEEL OF TIME, spun by Discordia Maestro Prince Xzist, who added his own live foley magic and DJ flair to the mix.

Babraham Lincoln and Shiza Minnelli dazzled as 60s go-go dancers, while Charlie Chaplin, brought to life by Jeffrey Weissman, kept the crowd laughing with his timeless slapstick. Luna Taylor Dyste fluttered by as a whirlwind of butterfly magic, and Coventry and Kuluza delighted with their joyful clowning. Daniel Briggs, Martin Caplan, and Courtney D. Sexton collected and shared heartfelt stories from the crowd, each one honored with Goldfire Story Currency from Emperor Norton.

A special thanks to the Mid Market Arts crew, especially Abra, Rob, and Fernando, for hosting Unstaged: First Thursdays, and to Shannon and Meredith at Building 180 for co-producing and making it all possible. On August 3rd, Mystic Midway’s Barron Scott Levkoff co-produced the LOVEFEST SF street festival in San Francisco's Tenderloin District. Led by Value Culture’s Adam Swig and AW3, with support from the Civic Joy Foundation, Tenderloin Merchants Association, and SFMTA, the event brought together thousands of residents and visitors for a vibrant day of music, art, and community building in one of the city’s most underserved neighborhoods.

At the heart of the festival was the powerful ‘End of the Doom Loop’ ceremony, a symbolic moment marking the community’s efforts to break free from the cycles of neglect, poverty, and despair that have long plagued the Tenderloin. Local leaders, artists, and residents gathered to ceremonially cut a ‘Doom Loop Ribbon’, representing the community’s collective determination to overcome the hardships of the pandemic and reclaim the neighborhood’s spirit.

Through heartfelt speeches, performances, and personal reflections, participants celebrated the ongoing progress being made in the Tenderloin and shared a hopeful vision for a brighter, more vibrant future. A Night of Candy-Coated Chaos and Creative Revelry

On Friday, May 3, 2024, Midway SF (900 Marin St, San Francisco) transformed into an immersive playground of candy-coated chaos, art, and creativity for Mondo Wonky: Into the Wonkyverse event. Presented by Mystic Midway and Mondo Wonky, the night brought together over 100 local artists, performers, DJs, chocolatiers, and multichannel creators, creating an unforgettable adventure inspired by the world of Willy Wonka, the infamous Glasgow event failure, and the viral memes that followed.

“Mondo Wonky was more than just a party; it was a celebration of the Bay Area’s creative community,” said event creator Barron Scott Levkoff. “It was a testament to the enduring spirit of art, innovation, and the imagination that thrives in San Francisco.”

What Went Down:

Candy-coated chaos: Guests stepped into the Wonkyverse, a fantastical world where art, music, performance, and games collided in the most delightful ways.
Immersive installations: The venue was filled with interactive art exhibits, offering a whirlwind of creative experiences that invited attendees to explore and engage.
Music and performances: Guests danced to the beats of DJ Barbary Ghost, Neon Bunny, Doctor Friendly, Fabula, and Psychedelicious, while performances by J.A. Valentine as Lady Wonka, Polly Amber Ross as The Unknown, and Ifn Whendy as Queen Frostine brought the whimsical world to life.
Psychedelic neo-pop: The sounds of Sean Lee and The Tattooed Orange filled the air, while other performances like Edward W. Dahl, Five Day Miracle Tent Crusade, and Potatoes Mashed Comedy by Edna Mira Raia delighted guests.
Costumes encouraged: Attendees embraced the theme and wore their best Wonka-inspired outfits, blending seamlessly into the immersive experience.

The venue was alive with energy from 8 PM onwards, as the Wonkyverse unfolded in an atmosphere brimming with surprises. From music to games to art, the event was a whirlwind of creativity that invited everyone to join in on the madness.
